A tool that does not work

We as human beings originally formed government to fulfill certain basic needs of our society. A symptom of an unhealthy government could be found when there existed a clear violation of a societies basic needs. The ability to feed the people that live under government is a basic tenant that has been tested in recent days.

The complexity and dynamics of the very government we formed to protect these basic needs has played a hand in eroding at the world's ability to feed itself. The editorial from the new york times lists examples of how local politics have come at odds against our basic need to feed ourselves. Maybe on an individual level these policies demonstrate a level of selfishness and a lack of foresight, however government is just a tool and the inability of a government to fulfill necessities of the human condition are a tool that is malfunctioning and should be re-evaluated before it causes irreparable harm.

Even on a individual level politicians recognize the policies and actions that are being taken are of poor decision, however they are helpless to change their course. The link between hunger, declining agriculture and terrorism has been proven, however post 9/11 promises ring on empty ears as the world continues to suffer from a lack of nourishment.
